City’s Channel 6 expands video-on-demand service
The Communications and Public Information Office announced today that additional Channel 6 programming will be added to the existing video-on-demand programming at www.cityofaustin.org/channel6.
Council meetings have been available on demand since September 2008. This feature of the Web site was met with such great response from the public that the station has expanded video-on-demand content to include additional meetings, Live From The Plaza concerts, news conferences and other original programming.
“Part of being the best managed city in the country is providing residents opportunities to easily connect with their government,” said the City’s Chief Communications Director Doug Matthews.
Meetings will be available in their entirety or viewable by a specific agenda item, all within a day of the meeting taking place. Some of the more than 20 meetings per month include all Council Meetings, Council Member sub-committees, Planning Commission, Zoning and Platting Commission, Environmental Board, Board of Adjustment, Parks and Recreation Board and Solid Waste Commission.
“Providing more video-on-demand to the public is a great way to help the City of Austin meet its open government initiative,” said Keith Reeves, Channel 6 Manager. “Meetings being available on-demand makes it easier than ever to follow how the City of Austin makes decisions and operates.”
The City contracted with Swagit Productions, a Plano, Texas-based video production company specializing in streaming media for government and broadcast channels.
